T1 Creative Embroidery
All levels welcome - with Barbara Trendall
Course Description
Creative embroidery is all about enjoying the journey and process of working with needles and threads. In this class, you will be encouraged to work on projects of your own choice to develop your hand embroidery skills. Perhaps you have a work in progress that needs some attention, or maybe you just want to learn about the ancient craft of embroidery. Come and spend Friday morning with us as we share our passion for gorgeous threads, interesting stitches, lovely designs and the simple mindful pleasure of hand embroidery. About Tutor: Barbara Trendall Although my career was in the medical profession as a Medical Scientist working in South Africa and Australia both in forensic science and histology, I have been stitching in one form or another since I was a small girl learning from my mother. My stitching journey has taken me through interior design, craft, quilting and embroidery, with embroidery being my passion. My embroidery work encompasses thread painting, stumpwork and goldwork with techniques ranging from modern to Elizabethan as recognised by the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) at Hampton Court Palace in London. About the course Embroidery is a wonderful skill to have and can be used to develop beautiful handmade items for your family and friends or to make creations for your own pleasure at your own time and speed. This course will teach students the art of colourful, creative embroidery. Embroidery can be used in a wide variety of finished items or to create beautiful pieces of art. The emphasis in this course will be on exposing students to a wide range of embroidery techniques including surface stitchery, 3D stitching, Stumpwork, goldwork and some beading. Students can start the course by working on a simple introductory project. They can then work on further projects suggested by Barbara or be free to work on their own embroidery projects drawing on Barbara's experience and varied resources for guidance. Skills taught during the course will include choosing appropriate fabric and threads; getting started on setting up a new project; making up and finishing techniques as required by specific projects; and developing creative confidence in choosing/developing colour schemes and designs. What to Bring: A general sewing kit: needles, scissors, thimble, and a light/magnifier. Bring your own project to continue working on or try a project your tutor provides - any kits or resources brought in by tutor will be paid for directly to the tutor.
