Course Description

Learn the joy of painting small compositions and in one session ‘Alla-Prima’ style. Students will paint from simple still-life arrangements and learn how to paint spontaneously. Explore composition, brush and palette knife techniques. Suitable for oil painters and acrylic painters. Throughout the course Alex will talk about alla prima artists to reference, colour, palette, use of mediums, brushes, composition. She will assess the focus of the elements and principles of art according to the needs of the students. Tutor to demonstrate each week in oils or acrylics Experience the benefits of painting small and frequently to become a better painter. Key topics that will be demonstrated and discussed: Setting up still life objects and lighting them Composition and creating a value sketch before you paint Learn how to create an underpainting alla prima Colour and Palette organisation Brush work Alla prima artists and the history of this painting style Apply this knowledge to painting from photos About your Tutor: Alex Kyriakacis is an artist residing in Perth WA. Her paintings are reflective of her everyday life and her surroundings. She paints ‘alla prima’- from life and completes most of her paintings in one sitting so that she captures the colour and light in that moment. Her subject matter ranges from still life, landscapes and portraits. Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
