T1 Watercolour Painting with Big Brushes

Course Description

This new watercolour course will teach students the use of big brushes to create loose and effective paintings. You will learn the importance of subject and composition, the use of tones, colour, highlights, the appropriate level of water to paint, and the knowledge of when to stop. This is a 4 week short course for Term 1 2025. About your Tutor: I am a watercolour artist and also paint s in oils. I am a Fellow of the Watercolour Society of Western Australia and a Member of the Western Australian Society of Arts I have won awards at both of their Annual Exhibitions on numerous occasions and sold many paintings over the years. I have also delivered courses at the Melville Atwell gallery. Most of my painting is done outdoors with the Plein Air Painters Group. About the Course: 2 sheets of watercolour paper 300gsm ROUGH as a start (Arches, Fabriano, Saunders or any good quality paper) 1 mechanical pencil (B or 2B) 1 kneadable rubber 1 notebook 1 lrge plastic water jar 1 small spray bottle 1 A3 board on which to tape the paper 1 roll of masking tape 1 watercolour palette with wells of about 2cm x 2cm and large 6cm x 6cm mixing wells 1 roll of kitchen paper 2 x A round brushes (No.16 and No.12) 1 x rigger brush 1 x Square brush 1 inch/2.5cm Bring a mix of whatever watercolour brushes you have. Art Spectrum Paints or cotmans or any brand you like: 1 tube Cobalt Blue 1 tube Raw Sienna 1 tube Alizarin Crimson 1 tube Burnt Siennna 1 tube Aureoin (Yellow) 1 tube Cadmium Red 1 tube Ultramarine Or just bring whatever you have.

Terms and Conditions

A 20% administration fee applies to cancellations made before the beginning of the term. No refund will be given once the term has started. Participants in the term courses must be 18+ unless attending the After School or School Holiday workshops. Classes are not held on public holidays. Course start and finishing dates may vary due to public holidays and the availability of the course tutor. A full refund will only be given if a course is cancelled by the Tresillian Arts Centre. A refund will only be given if you have a medical certificate for the dates you have missed. No pro-rata payments are available for term courses or if classes are unattended by the student.
